Fumigation Services in Punjab
Punjab keeps its wheat, rice and pulses in godowns, shellers, chakkis and homes, and stored-grain insects find their way into all of them. Fumigation is a deep treatment for stored goods, storage spaces and wood-boring insects — and because it uses a gas, it is planned with safety first.

What to knowStored grain always draws insects. Weevils (susri) bore into wheat and rice; the lesser grain borer leaves kernels hollow and dusty; red flour beetles and moths spoil atta, suji and broken grain; and the khapra beetle is a well-known pest of stored wheat. Most of them breed faster in warm, humid weather, so wheat that went into storage clean after the April harvest can be infested by the time the monsoon humidity sets in, and paddy and rice stored in October–November face the same risk the following summer.
That touches everyone along the chain — godowns and warehouses holding grain, rice shellers and flour mills, dal and food-processing units, wholesale stores in the grain markets, and the many rural families who still keep a year's wheat at home. Godowns also hold cartons, packaged food and cattle feed, and once insects have settled into cracks, pallets and walls, the storage space itself needs treatment, not just the stock.
Wood is the other half. Wood-boring beetles — what most people call ghun — leave small round holes and little heaps of fine powder in sheesham and other wooden furniture, door panels, beds and old trunks. That is different from termites, which bring mud and hollow the wood from inside without neat holes. Where a spray cannot reach insects deep in the wood, fumigating the affected items can.

Signs you need fumigation services
- Grain with small holes, hollow kernels, or flour-like dust at the bottom of the bag or bin
- Small beetles or weevils crawling on sacks, bins or godown walls
- Moths flying around stored rice, atta or packaged food
- Webbing or lumps in stored grain, or a patch of stock that feels warm
- Tiny round holes with fine powder below wooden furniture, doors or trunks
- Insects coming back in a godown even after the storage space was sprayed
Before the technician arrives
- Tell us what is stored, roughly how much, and how the godown or room can be closed
- Name a responsible person who can keep the area locked through the waiting period
- Take out anything you will need during the waiting period, and keep people and animals away from the area
- Stack sacks so the technician can inspect the stock
- For furniture, show every piece with holes or powder, including items in store rooms
- Plan your work around the waiting period so the space doesn't have to be opened early
How The Treatment Is Done
Step by step- 1Site and stock inspection
The technician inspects the warehouse, godown or store, checks the stock and the insects in it, and sees how the space can be closed off.
- 2Fumigation plan and safety
A plan is made for the stock and the space, with the safety arrangements — sealing, keeping people and animals away, and briefing whoever is in charge of the site.
- 3Treatment
The stock or space is fumigated as per the plan: grain, pulses and other stored produce against storage insects, or the warehouse and the goods in it.
- 4Waiting and airing
The treated area stays closed for the waiting period and is then aired. Both are explained before starting, and nobody should enter until told it is clear.
- 5Wooden items
For furniture with wood-boring insects, the items are checked, the affected wood is fumigated, and the waiting period is explained.

Fumigation Services — Questions
Asked before bookingIs fumigation the same as pest spraying?
No. Spraying treats surfaces. Fumigation uses a gas, in a closed space, that reaches insects inside stored grain, packed goods and wood. That is why it needs sealing, a waiting period and safety arrangements that ordinary spraying doesn't.
Can the grain be used after fumigation?
The technician explains the safety and waiting period for your stock before starting. Follow that advice on when the store can be opened, aired and the stock used.
Can furniture with ghun be fumigated at home?
Wooden Furniture Fumigation treats the affected items. The technician checks them first and explains how they will be covered and how long the area must stay closed. Fumigation is not used on rooms where people are living.
Will fumigation keep insects away for good?
No. It deals with the insects present at the time; it doesn't shield the stock from new insects afterwards. Clean storage, sound sacks, dry conditions and regular checks matter, and businesses can add regular pest management under Commercial Pest Control.
Is it ghun or deemak in my furniture?
Ghun (wood-boring beetles) leave neat round holes and fine powder. Deemak (termites) leave mud lines and hollow wood without clean holes. If you see mud, book a Termite Inspection rather than fumigation.
How is the price worked out for a godown?
It depends on the size of the site, the stock and the arrangements needed, so it is usually fixed after the inspection. You are told the price before work starts, and you pay after the service.
